The good news? We sold our place! Six days after putting it on the market, if you want to know. Which is basically a miracle in this housing market. Cue “We are the Champions”….
The (not really) bad news? We’re gonna need a new TV. Yup, as part of our contract, the buyers get our TV, not to mention the bookshelves and media unit it is housed in. And our large poster of New York we scored from Ikea that people seem to always love. And the sleeper sofa in the sunroom. And our curtains. It would seem they like the look of our place. In fact, they were even interested in buying the 4′ giraffe in Colin’s room, but mama’s gotta draw the line somewhere. Plus, it’s not mine to sell, and little guy can’t sign contracts yet.
We just had the home inspection on Friday and it went really well. In fact, there was only item that the home inspector identified needed help. Our dishwasher door is slightly off and you need to jiggle it a bit when you close the door. Totally fixable. Our realtor said it was the best home inspection she had ever heard of, and I have to agree. Especially after watching “My First Place’ on HGTV where all deals always seem to fall apart after bad home inspections. Sweet relief.
So for all intents and purposes, this deal is done until closing on March 1. We really can’t wrap our heads around how easy this move has been so far. I guess it all works out the way it is supposed to, right?
Something I found interesting about this process was that for our buyers, it came down to two units: ours and an identical unit on the 3rd floor with a great view and a substantially lower price. The other unit had no furnishings left as the owners had already moved out. It makes me wonder if staging really is where it’s at. I know I have sung the praises of staging, but truth be told, we had no choice: we live here. Who knows, really. But I have to say, I am a firm believer now in staging a home. Of course, having your home on the market is still a crapshoot- you have to attract the exact right buyer for your home, and they have to show up, be having a good day, etc. Luckily, we had the right buyers show up and they liked our style. There is no way to tell, really. I am just so happy it all worked out. Now excuse me, I have to get ready for the movers- they come on Friday!
